Mahindra has finally officially launched its new flagship electric model ‘Mahindra XEV 9e’ for sale after a long wait. The starting price of this all-electric coupe-style SUV has been fixed at Rs 21.90 lakh. Which is the most expensive car offered by the company. The company has also introduced its ‘BE 6e’ electric SUV, whose price starts at Rs 18.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
At present, the company has announced the prices of only the base variant of XEV 9e. The prices of all its other variants will be announced in January next year. It is also important to note here that the price mentioned above does not include the price of the charger.
The company is providing two types of chargers as standard. For which customers will have to pay separately. The company says that its delivery is expected to start in February-March next year.
Look and design
Talking about the design, the look of the new XEV 9e is much better. It has been given a futuristic design. It has triangular headlights with projector headlamps, inverted L-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRL), LED light bar at the front, new front and rear bumpers, blanked-off grille, front, and rear skid plate, and contrast coloured outside rear view mirrors (ORVM).
Apart from this, it gets refreshed LED taillights, an integrated spoiler, a C-pillar-mounted rear door handle, a connected taillight setup, and new alloy wheels with aero inserts.
It also gets flush door handles, muscular shoulder lines, and specially designed aero-optimized 19-inch alloy wheels for extra range. However, this SUV also gets the option of 20-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, it has thin, connected LED tail lights just below the boot spoiler which enhance its rear profile. Apart from this, the ‘Infinity Mahindra’ illuminated logo looks quite attractive.
How is the interior
Mahindra has left no stone unturned in improving the cabin of this SUV. This 5-seater car has 3 separate screens. Each screen is 12.3 inches. They run on Mahindra’s Adrenox software. This SUV has a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, on which an illuminated logo is found.
Electronic parking brake, drive mode, and brake-by-wire technology have also been used well in this. 650 liters of boot space and 150 liters of frunk (small storage space found under the front bonnet) give you a complete luggage storage facility.
These features are available
This SUV has features like a panoramic sunroof, level 2 ADAS suite, 7 airbags, 360-degree camera, dual-zone climate control, a three-screen setup on the dashboard, a tweaked center console, a new gear lever, and a rotary dial.
Apart from this, an electronic parking brake (EPB), 1400-watt Harmon-Kardon’s 16-speaker music system, auto park function, wireless mobile projection, 65W USB Type-C charging port, scheduled charging function, and cabin pre-cooling function are also being provided. It is important to note here that the company is offering only 6 airbags in the entry-level variant.
Power and Performance
The XEV 9e has Mahindra’s ‘compact three-in-one powertrain’ which includes a motor, an inverter, and a transmission. Based on the INGLO platform, this SUV has been introduced with two different battery packs including 59kWh and 79kWh.
With a bigger battery, its motor generates 286hp of power and 380Nm of torque. The motor of the 59kWh variant generates 231hp of power. Mahindra claims that this electric SUV takes just 6.7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 mph.
Driving range and charging
Both its variants have LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) batteries. On which the company is giving lifetime warranty. Mahindra claims that a car with a 79kWh unit gives a range of 656 km on a single charge. At the same time, in the real world, this SUV is capable of traveling at least 533 km. The company says that the battery can be charged from 20 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes using a 175kW DC fast charger.
