Toyota India will announce the prices of its new, ninth-generation Camry on December 11. Toyota will introduce the new sedan in a new design inside and out, which will be launched globally in late 2023.
The Toyota Camry has more features than before and comes only with a petrol-hybrid powertrain. The new Camry will replace the outgoing car that has been on sale in India since 2019. It previously received a mid-life update in 2022.
A look at the exterior design of the new Toyota Camry
The latest generation Camry sticks to the tried and tested formula compared to its older models. Talking about its exterior design, it is all new, it is built on the modular TNGA-K platform of the older model. This platform is used in many Toyota and Lexus cars and SUVs around the world. Talking about the design, the new car is a new edition of the car available for sale. It is slightly longer in size but has the same wheelbase as the current car.
The face of the new Camry looks quite similar to the Lexus, especially the chin, which has been designed in a special way. The use of advanced lighting also means that the headlight pods are compact, with LED daytime running lights adding much-needed character. Around the sides of the car, Toyota has got more defined lines and at the rear, the large tail-lights have been replaced with ‘C’ shaped units.
Interior and features of the new Toyota Camry
Meanwhile, the interior of the new Camry will see a major change with an all-new dashboard layout with two digital screens. Its instrumentation is relayed through a 7-inch screen. The infotainment duties are performed through a floating 12.3-inch touchscreen setup. It is expected to have features related to the JBL sound system, head-up display, a digital key, and some other tech.
The new Camry, like the current model, will be aimed at driver-owned buyers, especially in markets like India. Toyota has provided a recline function in the rear seat and the seats come with ventilation. Controls for blinds and other features are placed between the seats. It will also come with the Toyota Safety Sense bundle, which includes ADAS features such as Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Curve Speed Reduction, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist Pre-Collision Braking System, etc.
Powertrain and specifications of the new Toyota Camry
The new Camry is powered by a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder engine. This engine is paired with two electric motors, whose combined output will generate 227hp of power. Like many other Toyota hybrids, the shifting for the Camry’s hybrid powertrain is done by a CVT gearbox.
The company claims that the new Camry will give a mileage of around 25kpl. It is also expected to deliver more efficiency, up from 19.1kpl for the current model.
Toyota will locally assemble the new Camry from imported kits at its Bidadi plant in Karnataka. Japanese brand Toyota will announce prices for the new Camry next month, with deliveries starting next year, reports Autocar. The car will also be displayed at Toyota’s stall at the upcoming India Mobility Show in January.
